Youth Committee for ISHS
Did you know that we have a small but mighty youth committee that provides feedback and direction to the organization and community on how to be as engaging to and supportive of youth and sexuality as possible? We absolutely do! And we’re looking for more youth to join us.
We are looking for youth between 15-25 years of age who want:
- to have their voices heard around sexual health issues
- to use their creativity and energy towards meaningful projects
- to meet monthly to discuss projects, issues, and ideas
- to inspire and engage change
This is an excellent opportunity to be involved in a community based non-profit health organization who is dedicated to creating positive and inclusive sexual health knowledge and services. Volunteer hours for school credit and reference letters will be gladly provided.
How can I get involved?

What kinds of Projects has the YC worked on?
Pride Parade
Our youth committee members love to get involved in community events like Pride. The YC take on all the planning and decorating duties for Pride which requires a lot of creativity, time and energy. We’re so proud of their creativity and as one community said, “ISH looks better at the parade every year!”
Safer sex matchbook designs
Our youth committee members are the brains behind our safer sex matchbook designs! They thought up ideas for seasonal condom packages to go with events such as Sexual and Reproductive Health week, Graduation, and Pride. You can see the end results below! The themed condom matchbooks are meant to make using safer sex materials more normalized and fun. We wanted to combine educational materials along with eye-catching and in-season designs. The youth committee will be creating more designs in the coming year!
Video Projects
Many committee members have played a big part in our video projects. Most recently, the Pacific Film Academy paired up with Island Sexual Health to do a short PSA around a first time visit to the clinic. Our committee members stepped up to plan/act in this exciting project and we couldn’t have done it without them! You can view them here:

Some of our members were also part of our crowd-sourcing campaign to raise money for our big move back in January 2013. The project began with a brain-storming session around ideas for a fun, informative sexual health video which could then be put on a crowd-sourcing platform. Once we had our idea in place, some of our youth committee members stepped up and acted in the video. It was such a hit that we raised over $16,000 for new exam beds and supplies! We couldn’t have done it without eager support from our youth committee!
